1. Dramatic irony: Occurs when the audience of a play or the reader of a work of literature knows something that a character in the work itself does not know. The irony is in the contrast between the intended meaning of the statements or actions of a character and the additional information understood by the audience. A celebrated example of dramatic irony is in Act V of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet,

A Red Red Rose

In this poem, the speaker uses abundant rhetoric so as to lead reader to his mental passion, emotion and feeling. Firstly, the speaker uses a simile to describe his love like a red rose. Secondly, the speaker also uses hyperbole to reflect that he will love her forever and eternally, even though the sea goes dry or rocks melt by the sun. Thirdly, the speaker uses metonymy to stand for time of life. The sands symbolize passing of time. In the last stanza, the speaker shows his passion for her and makes a promise that he will come back.

In the beginning, the speaker intend to show us that how mighty power and greatness of Ozymandias by describing the appearance of Ozymandias. First, the speaker describe the statuary is wrinkle up lip and sneer of cold command to reflect that Ozymandias’ outstanding power, self-pride and self-complacency. Dramatically, the speaker describes the space as a boundless and bare and empty land. Moreover, using sands to imply the change of time in the finally. To sum up, the speaker use dramatic irony in order to lead us to figure out the disparity between what the speaker says and what the speaker know to be. These works and might power of Ozymandias had been disappear, faded and pasting. Nothing has remained include the king of kings, Ozymandias. Anything about Ozymandias just a fantasy image and not exist virtually because everything had far away.
