除了真相，保羅其他都知道。

1. anything but常與be搭配使用，表示“根本不是，一點也不”，與not at all意義相近

Nothing but 後面可接三種型態的動詞，Nothing 前面的動詞與but後面的動詞要對等，因此but後面的動詞VR，V-ing或To VR 是由nothing 前面的動詞形態決定

Do nothing but VR 

Judy did nothing but cry. Judy 什麼也沒做就只會哭。

Enjoy nothing but V-ing

We enjoy nothing but singing. 我們只喜歡唱歌。  

Think of nothing but V-ing

James thinks of nothing but making money. James只想賺錢。

Desire nothing but to VR

She desired nothing but to marry a rich man. 她只想嫁有錢人。

anything but....根本不是，一點也不

anything but常與be搭配使用，與not at all意義相近。

He was anything but a hero.他根本不是什麼英雄。

=He is not a hero at all.　    

anything but...翻譯成除了……之外什麼都是（行，可以）

I enjoy drinking anything but milk. 除了牛奶我什麼都喜歡喝。

【區別】nothing but 後面可接名詞和代詞，譯為“僅僅；只不過”。

She eats nothing but apples. 她僅以蘋果為食。

He is nothing but a child. 他只不過是個孩子。

Judy played nothing but video games. Judy 只玩電動遊戲。

everything but  所有的東西除了...

everything but the kitchen sink意思是用盡一切手段，或者盡其所能地。 

幾乎全部東西；過多的東西。

She's only going on a vacation, but she arrived with everything but the kitchen sink. 她只是要度假, 可是她把全部的東西都帶來了。
