Some of... vs. Some...

差　　別

Some of my students can play basketball well. （我的一些學生籃球打得很好。）

指在某個特定範圍內的學生，而不是泛指。所以of後的名詞，必須是特定的。 →限定我的學生之中的一些

Some students can play the piano.
（有些學生會彈鋼琴。）

泛指一般學生，而不是在某一特定範圍中的學生。 →沒有限定哪些學生

Both of... vs. Either of... vs. Neither of...

差　　別

Both of the girls are pretty. （兩個女孩都很漂亮。）

Both of（兩者都）後接複數名詞，並用複數動詞。

Either of the girls is pretty. （兩個女孩中任一位都很漂亮。）

Either of（兩者任一）後接複數名詞，但用單數動詞。

Neither of the girls is pretty. （兩個女孩都不漂亮。）

Neither of（兩者任一都不）後接複數名詞，但用單數動詞。

 

注意：Both...not...為部分否定，可用one取代。

 Both of the girls are not pretty.（兩位女孩並非都很漂亮。）

 ＝One of the two girls is pretty.（兩位女孩中有一位很漂亮。）

Two of... vs. Both of...

差　　別

Two of the students like sports.
（這群學生中有兩位喜歡運動。）

Two of...表示群體中的兩位，且群體有三個或三個以上，用複數動詞。 ●●○○○○

Both of the students like sports.
（這兩位學生都喜歡運動。）

Both of...表示整體中只有兩個，且兩者都…，用複數動詞。 ●●
