可數與不可數名詞的區別

不可數名詞視為單數，不須加冠詞 a(n)。有些名詞通常作不可數名詞，但強調種類、數量時為可數名詞。如candy（糖果）、fruit（水果）、hair（毛髮）等。

 

不可數名詞總類

(1) 運動項目，如basketball（籃球）。   

(2) 液體，如water（水）、juice(果汁)、tea(茶)、coffee(咖啡)、milk(牛奶)。

(3) 總體類名詞，如meat（肉類）、food(食物)、money(錢)、homework(回家作業)、housework(家事)、time（時間）。

(4) 難以細數的名詞，如rice（米）、sand（沙）、butter(奶油)、cheese(起司)、bread(麵包)、salt(鹽)。

可數名詞則不能單獨存在，必須使用複數型或a/an 單數名詞、the/所有格單數名詞(或複數名詞)

 

以apple與pen為例

pen 與apple為可數名詞，在使用上是無法單字單獨存在的，因此至少要使用：apples 或pens

 

a pen 或an apple  the pen 或my pen 亦可以使用成 the pens 或my pens等同理the apple 或my apple 也可以是 the apples 或 my apples

 

修飾可數名詞和不可數名詞的數量形容詞

只能用來修飾可數名詞

數字、many（許多）、a few（一些）、few（幾乎沒有）

只能用來修飾不可數名詞

much（許多）、a little（一些）、little（幾乎沒有）

可修飾可數或不可數名詞

a lot of / lots of（很多）、some（一些）、no（沒有）、any（任何）

any 主要用在疑問句或否定句；some 主要用在肯定句，用在疑問句時，通常表「建議某事」。

 

Do you want some juice?（你想要一些果汁嗎？）

Any 與some練習題：

1. A: Don’t you want  any  fruit for breakfast? B: Yes, I want some  fruit.

 

2. A: Does he want any books on the desk?   B: No, he doesn’t want any books on the desk.

3. A: There are some boxes over there.       B: Well, I don’t see any boxes.

4. A: Let’s drink some  juice for our dinner.     B: Well, I can’t find any juice.

Let’s VR.邀請或建議某人做某事，因此使用some

5. A: Do you need any rice?               B: Yes, I need some  rice.

6.Would you like some tea? 此為邀請語氣希望對方喝杯茶，雖為疑問句但能使用some

形式上是複數但其意義為單數的名詞

  •  疾病名稱:measles, mumps, rickets, etc.
  • 學科名稱:mathematics, linguistics, politics, etc.
  • 比賽名稱:billiards, checkers, fives, etc. 
  • 專有名詞: the United States, the United Nations, etc.

由兩個部分所組成的物件名常用複數形

  • 衣服: trousers, pants, pajamas, braces, breeches
  • 用具:scissors, shears, pincers, spectacles, etc.

 這些名詞作主詞時要用複數動詞,但前有a(good)pair of 時用單數動詞。

 The scissors aren't sharp.

 A (good) pair of scissors is on the desk.

不加s的複數名詞

  • 須加定冠詞的集合名詞:

 the police, the peasantry, the nobility, etc.

  • 不須加冠詞的集合名詞

 people, cattle, fish, poultry, vermin 害蟲, etc.

集合名詞

指單一的集合體時用單數動詞，指個別的的組成份子時用複數動詞。

 

 My family is a large one.

 My family are all very well.
