fill和stuff當動詞使用時，皆有「填滿，充滿」之意。使用方式略有不同。

stuff後可接up/into/with等介係詞+固態(或有形的物質)。

 

stuff up填塞

Mike stuffed the hole up with old clothes.

Mile使用舊衣物把那個洞填滿了。

I’ve got a cold and my nose is stuffed up.我感冒了而且我的鼻子塞住了。

stuff N1 with N2    用N2裝滿N1

Peggy stuffed the cloth doll with cotton. Peggy把布娃娃塞滿棉花。

stuff N2 into N1      把N2塞入N1

Before rushing out to catch the bus, Eric stuffed his sweater and smartphone into his backpack.

Eric在衝出去趕公車之前，把毛衣和手機塞進他的背包。

 

 fill with有填滿、充滿之意。

fill+ with+ 有形的物質(固態、液態、氣態都可以)或抽象的東西(如幸福感、快樂等…)

Cindy filled up a jar with strawberry jam yesterday.

昨天Cindy裝了一整罐草莓醬。

After I watched the movie, I was filled with happiness. 在我看完那部電影之後，我充滿了幸福感。

fill可當雙賓動詞。He filled me a glass of beer.他給我倒滿了一杯啤酒。

fill in 與fill out 都可以當作填寫，兩者的使用方式皆相同。

Can you fill in the form for me? 你可以幫我填寫一下表格嗎?

fill in 還有其他用法如下:

 

fill in for someone 意指「代替、填補一個空缺的職位」

Tina happened to the car accident yesterday, so she will take three months off. We need to find someone to fill in for her.

Tina 昨天發生車禍，所以她將會休假三個月。我們需要找到人來替代他的職位。

fill someone in on something意指「向某人提供訊息或消息」。

 stuff 當名詞，意思為「東西」，泛指各式各樣的物品 miscellaneous items

與thing的意思相同，但用法不同。

stuff為不可數名詞，須單獨存在。

前不加任何不定冠詞a/an，但可使用定冠詞the或所有格，亦可以在前面放上使用於不可數名詞的量詞，但皆以「單數」存在。

thing為可數名詞，不可單獨存在。需使用不定冠詞a或定冠詞the或所有格。才能單數存在，否則須以複數型存在。複數型前亦可使用可修飾於可數名詞的數量詞。數量詞的用法many much a few a little some any  

 

例如: There is a lot of stuff on your desk.你的桌上有許多東西。

=There are a lot of things on your desk.

fill用作可數名詞的意思是「填滿…的量」，常與of連用，用於具體名詞

fill當不可數名詞，可表示抽象意義「充分、足夠」。

 

No more tea,thank you,I've had my fill.

謝謝你,不要再添茶了,我已經喝足了。
