There be N ving/p.p.

表示「存在」的句型，由形容詞子句省略而來，be動詞的單複數要視後面的名詞片語決定，Ving(現在分詞)，表原句為「主動語態」動詞轉換而來。若為p.p.(過去分詞)，則表示「被動語態」。

There is a girl at the door. 有一位女孩在門邊

The girl is standing at the door. 那位女孩正站在門邊

將兩句合併則為→There is a girl who is standing at the door.有一位女孩正站在門邊

→who is 可以省略→There is a girl standing at the door.

There was an old lady. The old lady was walking down the street.

There was an old lady who was walking down the street.

→There was an old lady walking down the street.

There were twenty passengers. Those passengers were injured in the car accident.

→There were twenty passengers who were injured in the car accident.

→There were twenty passengers injured in the car accident.有二十位乘客在車禍中受傷。

有一個醉漢在深夜時分在大街上大吼大叫。

There was a drunk man shouting loudly on the streets in the dead of night.

有一位貪心的老人要另一杯免費續杯。

There was a greedy old man asking for another free refill.

有兩位學生自願到老人院掃地。

There are two students volunteering to sweep the floor in the nursing home.
